Functional skills are the skills needed for day-to-day living and for developing quality of life. These are useful skills and can be immediately utilized in the individual’s environment. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder often find it challenging to learn functional skills. We address these skills to help each one of our clients increase their independence.
Our clinical team chooses goals based on every individual’s strengths and unique needs. Training for functional adaptive skills is provided to clients from ages 21 years old and below. This is given in their homes.
Some examples of functional skills are:
- Decision-making
- Communication
- Self-care
- Safety
- Leisure and recreation
